Q&A: What is the best place to put a duragesic patch on my skin for the most pain relief?

Question by ExSlyder: What is the best place to put a duragesic patch on my skin for the most pain relief?

Answer by Laurence W
It is generally believed that Duragesic patches are absorbed via fatty tissue so any area such as chest, back, stomach is appropriate. It someone is very thin, it is questionable as to how effective the patch will be. Good luck.

Rather than posting & reposting the same question, call your doctor. There are narcotic equivalency tables, but they’re only a starting point.

Topical remedies (like your patch) do absolutely nothing to help a sore back. Any of these creams (like RUB-A535) or other “rub in” skin creams only activate the pain receptors in the skin in such a way that they fool the brain into thinking your back hurts less. Taking muscle relaxers and NSAID’s (ibuprofen) will help you heal quicker, and also reduce the pain.

What’s new in non-narcotic chronic back pain management?

Question by wildheavenfarm: What’s new in non-narcotic chronic back pain management?
My husband’s had a spinal fusion and a spinal cord stimulator (wonderful device) implanted but he still have pain in his lumbar. He’s had chiropracty, osteopathy, electrofied acupuncture, watsu, every drug you can think of, physical therapy, trans-cutaneous nerve stimulation, pain relief patches (lido and fentynyl), electronic muscle stimulation, pool therapy, nitro paste, and I’m sure I missed a few. What are you all doing for your chronis back pain?

Best answer:

Answer by Brian
A pain management specialist can inject a steroidal solution into the region that’s painful — often this will last for months — it helps to lessen inflamation and pain on the nerves. You’ll probably have to ask for a referral or call the hospital to make an appointment — there aren’t a huge number of pain management anesthesiologists in private practice.
