Q&A: Need relief for upper back pain, can’t afford to rest and take it easy?

Question by Crutch: Need relief for upper back pain, can’t afford to rest and take it easy?
I think I may have pullled a muscle in my upper back when working out, initially, but the other morning I was doing that morning yawn stretch and all the sudden I was in a tremendous amount of pain which primarily is concentrated to my upper back, but is affecting my neck, torso, and arm movement and making it difficult to function without a lot of pain. I am healthy and in very good shape, never had any back problems before. I can’t afford to miss work and rest, and my job is pretty physical, it seems as the night goes on at work, I either get used to it or it loosens up a little, but in the mornings it hurts real bad all over again, and it even hurts or agitates it more just taking deep breaths. I’ve been using a heating pad, and an infrared lamp to try and treat it, along with extra strength tylenol, but the condition isn’t getting any better. I really need to be able to make it to the weekend before I can rest it properly

Often, muscular irritation and upper back pain is due to either de-conditioning (lack of strength) or overuse injuries (such as repetitive motions). Muscle strains, sports injuries, auto accidents, or other injuries can all result in pain from muscular irritation.

This type of upper back pain is most amenable to manual treatments, such as:

Exercise/Active and passive physical therapy

Chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation

Deep massage or massage therapy

Acupuncture

Because the upper back pain is related to large muscles in the shoulder area, most rehabilitation programs will include a great deal of stretching and strengthening exercises

Question by g: is that infra red heat/light treatment effective for pain relief?
I saw one of these things today and I was wondering if they were really effective for stuff like back pain, joint pain and general pain management or if it was just some gimmick.

LifeWave IceWave Patch For Pain Relief

The LifeWave health care company has been developing nanotechnology patches over the years for various health enhancement purposes. There are patches to help aid appetite suppression and weight loss, patches that help attain a steady sleeping pattern, anti-aging patches, energy booster patches, and for instant relief of pain, stiff and sore muscles, swelling, bruising, joint pains, tension headaches, spasms and cramps, LifeWave has developed the IceWave patches.

The LifeWave IceWave patches work by combining cutting-edge nanotechnology and the ancient medicine of acupuncture. Acupuncture is a form of oriental medicine, which involves the process of inserting and manipulating very fine needles into the different acupuncture points on the body to relieve pain, aid in sleep, relieve stress, aid in weight loss, and for other various therapeutic purposes. The LifeWave IceWave patches, once applied at a certain points of the body, stimulate the different acupuncture points to improve the flow of energy and to stimulate biological reactions necessary to relieve pain and inflammation. These patches also work by using thermal regulation, reducing heat to the area of inflammation and, thereby reducing soreness, redness, and pain.

Through medical infrared imaging, it has been proven that the thermal regulatory effect of LifeWave IceWave patches occurs within 5 minutes of application. In order to maximize the pain-relieving effect of the IceWave patches, the “clock method” of application was developed. In this method, you will start by placing the tan IceWave patch on the most painful area of your body. Then, you may unpack the white IceWave patch and place it just above the tan IceWave patch. If pain is relieved, leave the patches in place for 12 to 14 hours. Otherwise, move the white IceWave patch from the 12 o’clock position to the 3 o’clock position. If pain has still not been reduced, move the white IceWave patch to the 6 o’clock position, and then to the 9 o’clock position, and so on, until pain is relieved. For overall body pains, instead of using the clock method, you may place the white patch on the right foot and the tan patch on the left foot. The desired therapeutic effect is guaranteed to be immediate and lasting.

Back Bone Natural Treatment and Vitamin for Back Bone Pain Relief

There are a few remedies for back pain relief that you can use in the home, without consulting a doctor. One common way is to try household painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, codeine or paracetamol. If you take it regularly, it will not only relieve your backache but will also reduce any inflammation. The latter effect is most important in those conditions that involve some inflammation like facet joint irritation.

Natural Back Pain Relief Methods

Hydrate

Stocking up on water is always a good thing, since water is very effective at flushing out your body’s toxins and provides natural lubrication for your joints. Drinking 8-10 glasses a day is more than enough to keep your body balanced and hydrated.

Eat food with anti-inflammatory properties

Back pain is often caused by inflammation. Intake food with anti-inflammatory property can help out lessen the irritation and the resulting pain. Food with anti-inflammatory properties includes apples, papayas, bananas, green leafy vegetables with beans.

Heat the area

Heat helps the body to battle with the inflammation and relaxes the affected area. There are many ways to do it but the most common one is to put a hot compress there before you are going to sleep. You can also use the Radian B lotion which works great for pinched muscles or an infrared heating pad which will cost you around 150 dollars but it’s really great for back pain and sciatica!

Avoid Foods That Can Cause Inflammation.

People who suffer from back pain also need to avoid certain foods which contain inflammatory properties, which mean that they can increase pain. Prime examples are alcohol, tea, dairy products, pastries, and chocolate.

Minerals that provide calcium build better bones

When taking your daily vitamins minerals and supplements don’t forget how important calcium is for the production of new bone and connective tissues. Back pain can be helped greatly when calcium and magnesium are added to the daily diet. Muscle, bone, and all connective tissue benefits from having plenty of magnesium along with a constant supply of calcium provided from childhood on.

Walking

If you do not like walking, you should start liking it now. Walking is a pretty good exercise for a bad back. It is not only a good way to get your circulation going; walking, unlike other forms of exercise, is easy on your joints and is a good way to strengthen your bones.

Vitamin for Backbone Pain

Vitamin A

Foods rich in Vitamin A will provide you with nutrients that allow natural healing and repair of tissues. Osteoporosis as a cause of back pain is due to the degeneration of spinal bones. Mainly because the bones lack calcium that can provide bone mass. Unless you address an existing deficiency, it would be hard to render as effective whatever cure for lower back pain you take or make. Examples of food rich in Vitamin A: dairy products, citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables, beef and chicken liver.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K rich foods are abundant sources of calcium nutrients which we all know as the most important substance needed by our bones to stay healthy and strong. In addition, it can provide your bones with iron, which are minerals that help in the absorption of oxygen and the elimination of waste elements like carbon dioxide. You can get your Vitamin K or potassium supplements in beans, soy, grains and lentils in addition to the other vitamin rich foods.

Magnesium

Magnesium is important in promoting proper muscle contractions and to keep your muscles toned. It helps in the absorption of nutrients that can add density to our bones. Vegetables that are green and leafy, whole grain breads, beans, nuts, seeds, shrimps, bananas and a lot more can provide us with sufficient amounts of magnesium.

Infrared Saunas Pain Relief & Weight Loss – True Or False

Over the years so much has been made about weight loss by sweating out water. Yet time and again some expert will explain that all weight lost this way will return as soon as you drink water. Now people are touting the weight loss benefits of infrared saunas and even saying that they can bring relief to chronic pain sufferers.

So then, what are the real facts because people who endure pain and serious weight issues need to know. Can an investment in a sauna of this type really bring some sort of alleviation or is all just more misinformation being perpetuated on the public at large?

]]>

The fact is that when you sweat your body uses energy to produce the sweat and to deliver it to the skins surface. It’s all the result of tiny muscles in the sweat glands using energy. Yes most of the water you sweat out will return when you drink water but not all of it.

This is because your body burns 350 calories for every 500 grams of sweat it produces. This is roughly the equivalent of running for two miles. Also another thing to consider is that a session on a warm sauna does tend to dull the appetite, which in turn can only help in weight loss.

As for pain relief, infrared saunas are regularly recommended by doctors so there can be no doubt in this area. Even so, just what makes them so different? The simple answer is that the heat from this type of sauna penetrates far beyond the skins surface.

You see your skin and your body itself is opaque. That is that light passes though it to a certain degree. In fact the radiant heat in infrared saunas penetrates up to one and a half inches below the skins surface to relive pain and accelerate healing by dilating blood vessels.

Surgery is not the only option for chronic neck and shoulder pain. Natural pain relief methods can provide an alternative

Chronic neck and shoulder pain affects millions of people across the world every single day, limiting their mobility and lowering their quality of life. Whether the condition is the result of a sports injury, a car accident or a medical condition, shoulder joint pain and neck discomfort can remain a lifelong problem if not treated properly.

Many people mistakenly believe that surgery and painkillers are the only available options for neck pain relief and shoulder pain relief. They are not aware that there is an alternative to invasive procedures and chemical-based medications. There are actually numerous natural forms of neck and shoulder pain treatment that are just as effective as traditional methods procedures.

Massage therapy, for instance, is a popular solution for lasting neck pain relief. By putting pressure on certain trigger points and stimulating movement in the muscles and ligaments, massage therapy increases circulation throughout the body. This strengthens muscles and instigates the body’s natural healing process, thereby decreasing the frequency and severity of neck and shoulder pain.

]]>

Relief can also be found through low-impact exercise such as yoga, tai chi and Pilates. The slow, focused, stretching and balancing movements involved in these exercises produce increased strength and flexibility while offering a much lower risk of injury. They also help to reduce stress, which is another common cause of neck and shoulder pain.

Deep penetrating light therapy is another natural form of neck and shoulder pain treatment. Although it is not as well known, it can be just as effective in relieving chronic neck and shoulder joint pain. In this process, infrared light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the underlying tissue. This stimulates the body’s production of endorphins, which block certain chemicals that transmit pain from the brain.

Magnets can also be used as a form of shoulder and neck pain treatment. In this type of therapy, magnets are pressed to the skin at the point of pain and their magnetic fields are used to help relax capillaries. This can encourage blood flow and reduce pain.

The primary benefit to seeking natural alternatives to surgical or chemical forms of neck pain treatment is the peace of mind that comes from knowing you will not be exposing your body to any harmful side effects. Before you decide to take drastic measures, consult an alternative health care specialist or a homeopathic doctor for advice on relieving chronic pain through any of these methods.
